Dear Customer,

There is a lot happening in the world of DNA. After developing an immensely successful Jewish ancestry test for an international ministry client last year, we have now made that product available to the public, with a discount to customers. Our Jewish DNA Ancestry Test sells for $150 and definitively confirms if you have one or more of the three Jewish markers in our 18 Marker Ethnic Panel. If you have the marker, you have the ancestry—it’s that simple.

Not to let the cat out of the bag, but we are planning a similar marker test for Native American ancestry in response to popular demand. That one is coming soon!

Customer Comments of the Month

I am so impressed by the professionalism of the staff. The report was so valuable to me because my paper trail has many holes and many unanswered questions. The report provided some surprise findings, which I find quite provocative. I am still working  to fill those gaps and the DNA fingerprint report has helped tremendously.  Thank you!!    debra roberts

The whole science behind direct-to-the-consumer DNA tests has matured in the last year, passing several important milestones. We make a big effort to follow these developments—and your comments are always welcome—in the DNA Consultants Blog.

Bear Went Over the Mountain Available as Download on Google Books. Donald Yates' classic genealogy book The Bear Went Over the Mountain (Princeton:  Cherokee Press, 1995) is now available for $12.95 as a download. It has been out of print for nearly 10 years. Many people have written to the author and begged him to republish it. More e-books are planned for our Google Editions imprint Panther’s Lodge, including a bilingual text of the national Cherokee origin story with Mack Bettis, Brian Wilkes and others.

Elizabeth C. Hirschman, a professor in the business school of Rutgers University noted for several classic studies in the annals of consumer behavior, is presenting a paper co-authored with DNA Consultants principal investigator Donald N. Yates at the June American Marketing Association conference in Washington. Titled "Altruistic Economics and Consumer Cooperatives in the DNA Marketspace," the paper is a case study of direct-to-the-consumer DNA testing.

Hirschman and Yates book now set to appear in McFarland’s fall list. Titled Jews and Muslims in British Colonial America, the new publication was over five years in the making. It will appear in paperback and be priced at $45.00. Mentioned in the Introduction are several contemporary figures in current events, including Barack Obama (with some Cherokee ancestry), Johnny Depp, Adrien Brody, Roseanne Barr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Louise Glück, Neil Simon, Barbara Boxer, Bernie Sanders, Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan. To pre-order, go to McFarland's website.

About the Book
Americans have learned in elementary school that their country was founded by a group of brave, white, largely British Christians. Modern reinterpretations recognize the contributions of African and indigenous Americans, but the basic premise has persisted. This groundbreaking study fundamentally challenges the traditional national storyline by postulating that many of the initial colonists were actually of Sephardic Jewish and Muslim Moorish ancestry. Supporting references include historical writings, ship manifests, wills, land grants, DNA test results, genealogies, and settler lists that provide for the first time the Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, and Jewish origins of more than 5,000 surnames, the majority widely assumed to be British. By documenting the widespread presence of Jews and Muslims in prominent economic, political, financial and social positions in all of the original colonies, this innovative work offers a fresh perspective on the early American experience.
