DNA Consultants Newsletter - February 2010

The big news in Phoenix as some of our friends in the rest of the country dig out from the February snowstorms is the DNA Consultants Cherokee DNA Project. After several months of preparation we unveiled what we believe to be the world’s largest collection of Cherokee DNA results. Enrollment is open to Phase II candidates for inclusion in the study “Anomalous Mitochondrial DNA Lineages in the Cherokee.”

Those who participated in the original study can post their results to share with others in a new members-only area.

First made public last August, the company study of 52 Cherokee descendants claiming Native American mitochondrial descent created a sensation by validating East Mediterranean roots for the Cherokee people. Flying in the face of the rigid views held by anthropologists and others, it confirmed Keetoowah Society traditions about the origins of the tribe and verified family stories of the individual participants. “Many, if not most of these genealogy researchers experienced years of frustration and rejection before this conclusive proof of Old World DNA in Indian tribes before Columbus," said principal investigator Donald Yates. “They were denied knowledge of their true heritage by the existing scientific establishment.”

Said Karen Mitchell upon receiving her results, “I have read your article three times now and reread the article on Jewish Native Americans. It is very, very helpful to me to see so many other DNA testees with similar results.” She asked if there was “any way you can provide ‘space’ for anomalous-ees to dialog?”

Well, now there is such a space. Customers receiving this newsletter can register to have access to DNA Consultants’ new secured areas. These include not only Cherokee Studies but Melungeon DNA research and several surname projects (with more to come). Once registered, you will be able to click on and view private data, cases and results. You can leave comments for other members on any secured page.

PROJECT PARTICIPATION CONSENT FORM

Tishcohan, a Lenni Lenape chief from about 1760, whose name means “Chief Cohen” (Hebrew for priest). DNA Consultants’ Cherokee DNA Phase II investigations will include male lines.

Since the success of the “anomalous” Cherokee DNA study, principal investigator Donald N. Yates announced the company would embark on an ambitious follow-up. Phase II will continue to build a sample of Cherokee descendants with shared mitochondrial results but, most excitingly, offer participants a chance to share Y chromosome and autosomal results as well. Recent evaluation of the Y chromosome results of a descendant of Cherokee chief Red Bird (also known as Aaron Brock) suggests the line of Motoy and others is the same as that of Old Testament Priests carrying the so-called Cohen Modal Haplotype. Phase II participants can contribute results from the DNA Fingerprint Test and 18 Marker Ethnic Panel as corroboration of Native American results found together with Greek, Jewish, Egyptian and other relevant ancestry.

If you believe you are descended from a Cherokee you can join Phase II by purchasing the Premium Female/Native American DNA Test and checking off “Cherokee DNA Project” on your order after reading the Project Participation Consent Form. This option will also be available on other tests if your results support the goals of the DNA Cherokee Project, aimed at documenting the wide diversity of the original Cherokee people. If you have tested with us before, please go to www.dnaconsultants.com/access.htm.

Remember you can have a 10% discount on any order by mentioning the code dnaplus. This offer also goes for ordering a test to join the new Cherokee DNA Project. Use our unique autosomal offerings to verify your Native American and other ethnic ancestry today!
