Do You Need the Premium Combo Test?
If you are looking for the
most comprehensive information about your outer lines (male-male and female-female),

The Premium
Combo tests the Y chromosome type received from your father,
and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) passed to you by your mother. This product
is a combination of our Premium Male and Premium Female Tests. The Premium Combo offers a discount
from the two individual tests purchased separately, saving you time and money.
For the female half of the test, your mtDNA is screened for differences on
two control regions known as HVRI and HVRII. The resulting "mutations" define
your maternal lineage (the DNA of your mother, her mother and so forth, all
the way back).
Your mtDNA mutations are researched in the Cambridge Mitochondrial DNA Concordance,
Mitosearch, and other authoritative databases. A history of your particular
female lineage is presented as part of the report, with comparative frequencies
in world populations.
For the male half of the test, your Y chromosome is examined at 43 locations
for distinctive markers called Y-STRs. The scores for the 43 Y-STRs determine
your father's male line or pedigree, which follows the surname through history
(i.e., that of your father's father's father's etc., all the way back). Your father's haplotype is searched in the Y-STR Haplotype Reference Database
and Ysearch, a database that can provide the names and contact information
of males descended from the same male ancestor as you within the past 500
years or so.
Your report includes a world map of cities and countries where genetic male
cousins are found today.
Who Can Take the Premium Combo?
Males possess both the Y chromosome and mitochondrial DNA from their mother, and so a male sample can provide
both lines of information. Females do not carry their Y chromosome and therefore
will need to collect that sample from a male relative.
Or, you can take just the Premium Male or Premium Female test.
How the Test Works
We will send you a Premium Combo sample collection kit containing two cheek
swabs and instructions for collection. You will then send the samples back to
our laboratory via the prepaid shipping pack. The laboratory provides the genetic
testing, and we will analyze and interpret the results. Testing takes approximately
six to eight (6-8) weeks from the time the lab receives your samples. Your electronic
report is delivered to you by email within about another week. It includes:
